Sustainable Living in the Past - Howick Historical Village

Look to the past to find ways of living for the future! Experience daily life in the 1850s at Howick Historical Village, where sustainability underpinned everything. Everything was homemade and grown, nothing was wasted. Explore the heritage buildings and gardens, catch a butter making demo, play old-fashioned games. Make a day of it!

Come join in a practical session on the different methods of growing Phoenix Oyster mushrooms, with a focus on sustainability. You will be introduced to the basics of cultivation and then get to setup a 5kg grow kit for you to take home. You should wear clothes that you don't mind getting a bit mucky. Suitable for 13+ years old. Bring yourself and note taking material if desired. This event is part of the launch event for EcoFest in the South.

On this day we will be caring for thousands of native trees and shrubs that have recently been planted by releasing them from strangling weeds. CVNZ will provide all of the tools and equipment required as well as experienced leaders who are keen to share their knowledge of native fauna and flora.
